The Dinner Detour

If you have been following along with our Instagram posts you are probably wondering, do these sisters eat anything besides, eggs, bacon, waffles, and mimosas?  Yes, we do!  Although, we probably enjoy brunch more than the average person we do love a great dinner, too.  I mean, how can one sustain themselves on brunch alone, especially when living in the fabulous city of New Orleans?

This past Saturday was one of our favorite days of the year, Red Dress Run and by Dirty Linen.  This is a long day of indulging in alcohol, French Quarter adventures, red dresses (for everyone, guys included), wine-stained linen, and Royal Street art.  While both are highly attended few make it to both events.  We traditionally make it a point to attend both, however, this takes a little planning and of course a fabulous dinner to soak up the day’s alcohol.

After participating in Red Dress Run for approximately four hours (Alyssa participated in RDR for at least 7 hours, oh to be young again), we made it a point to go home and change into our white linen from the previous weekend then head back out to the quarter for dinner at Broussard’s before partaking in Dirty Linen.
Broussard’s has one of the best Coolinary deals in the city, 3-courses for only $19.20! What is Coolinary? Coolinary is the best time of the year to experience some of the finest restaurants at an affordable price.  During the month of August famous restaurants and some, not so famous restaurants offer two-course lunches for $20 or less and three-course dinners for $39 or less. Some restaurants will even have a brunch option, coming in under $39!  But buyer beware some Coolinary deals are not so great, be smart use a little math and make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck.  Wondering how Broussard’s came up with their $19.20 dinner special?  The price celebrates the year they opened their doors, 1920.

Upon arrival at Broussard’s the staff invited us to have a drink in the Empire Bar while waiting for our table, the Empire Bar offers $1.92 punch during Happy Hour (Mon - Fri 4 pm - 7 pm & Sat-Sun 2:30 pm - 7 pm).  We were seated in the adjoining dining room off the Main dining area.  If possible you should request to sit in the Main dining room it has a much nicer ambiance.   The staff quickly presented us with menus and informed about the specials.  Bonus they also are offering $19.20 bottles of wine (I am detecting a theme) one option in each wine category, very refreshing from the typical Chardonnay and Merlot house sections.  We opted for the Cava because every day is a celebration when you have a bottle of sparkling wine.  The three-course dinner consisted of an appetizer, entrée, and a dessert, each with three to four choices options,

I had the Chilled Asparagus soup with crème Fraiche and truffle oil, Moules Frites, and the Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée.  Alyssa selected the Goat Cheese Tart, Cane Glazed Pork Tenderloin, and the Mousse Au Chocolat.  The Asparagus soup was very refreshing, my only complaint is it did not really have any truffle oil, so why the even mention truffle oil on the menu.   No complaints on the Moules Frites, cooked perfectly with just the right amount of frites.   Crème Brûlée is one of my favorite desserts, while this one was good it wasn’t great, it was a little too sweet for my taste.

Keep Scrolling for food pictures.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Coolinary Special at Broussard’s it is a great value!  Can’t make it to Broussard’s before the end of August?  You are in luck, the special is running until September 23rd.

You can catch us at Broussard’s again on August 31st at the Queen B Drag Brunch! We will be kicking off Decadence Weekend the only way we know how, with bottomless mimosas!
