Road Trip: Los Angeles
🎶 Summer,
summer, summertime 🎶
Well, not exactly..
In December, I drove 1,877 miles (about 28 hours) for a mini-vacation with my
friend Shannon. The drive from New Orleans was long, but filled with lot’s of
sunshine! California definitely gives summer vibes almost all the time, with
little to no cloud cover. While in California, I stayed in Orange with Shannon’s
family. But what would a visit to California be without a trip to the beach,
Disneyland, and an LA brunch?!
It’s so nice
knowing people who live in other cities, partially because they can show you
around and make sure you’re not trapped in the tourist spots. One of our first
days there, we took a quick little drive to Huntington Beach! The following
day, I bought a park hopper ticket into DisneyLand and had the time of my life!
Now, on to brunch,
what we’re all here for! Back when we started our Instagram, we had a very
special follower, Celine from celrangeldesigns. Her friendliness somehow made
it’s way to us and I was able to plan a brunch in LA with Celine based off of
her recommendations! I LOVE meeting new people and am so glad that Instagram brought
us together.. and where else than bacari on West 3rd. The entrance
to the beautiful courtyard dining area was quaint and almost felt magical. I
was very pleased just walking to our table!
bacari is a
lovely small plate restaurant with a brunch menu that appears never ending. We
dove right in and just started ordering. At times we forgot to take pictures
because the food was absolutely divine! Bottomless options were interchangeable,
so I started with mimosas and ended somewhere else. One of the first plates we ate
through was a lovely serving of Shrimp & Grits. The dish was to die for, and
was filled with so many flavors!
The next 2 plates
we had brought out were: shakshouka and the bacari burger. Shakshouka is tomato
based dish served with a baguette and of course a fried egg. The bacari burger
was open faced and also perfect for sharing!
We moved on to an
easy finger food after these dishes and ordered bacari fries, also topped with
an egg and bacari’s chef sauce.
Finally, we had
to order some sweet dishes after indulging in all the savory things and ordered:
the chef’s French toast and the dutch baby pancake. The French toast was the
most perfect cut of brioche with the right amount of sweet fruit and vanilla
custard topping. The dutch baby pancake was fluffy and divine; we scarped the
skillet clean.
After a few more
drinks, I became slightly inebriated and extra giggly. Leaving through the
entrance was an adventure back to the real world, and I may have gotten a
little ‘too’ close for comfort in our group picture.
Nonetheless,
brunch was fabulous, reasonably priced, and absolutely filling! I can’t thank Celine
enough for recommending bacari and for joining us on our brunch adventure.
